What You Can (and Can’t) Put Into a Skip Bin

In fact, most items listed in the ‘can’t put in a skip bin’ list are things that either can’t be disposed of in traditional ways because they are hazardous or they are items which can easily be included in your wheelie bin or as part of curbside collection. What You Can Put In

General Waste – Toys, clothes, carpet, broken or unwanted possessions

Appliances – Microwaves, stoves, blenders, barbeques, fridges (must be de-gassed first)

Furniture – Tables, chairs, couches, lamps, cabinets etc.

Office Waste – Paper, boxes, stationery, partitions etc

Light Construction Waste – Wood, gyprock, metal

Heavy Construction Waste – Concrete & bricks only

Accepted Green Waste – Woodchips, branches, grass clippings, fence palings, bark

 

What You Can’t Put In

 

Food Waste – Fruit, vegetables, meat, takeaway food etc

Hazardous Items –Asbestos, explosive, toxic, noxious or dangerous materials

Liquids – Hazardous and non-hazardous liquids including paint, pesticides, oil and poisons (even in sealed containers)

Tyres – Hard to process. We recommend taking your tyres to tyre recyclers directly.

 

Batteries – All battery types from AAA right through to car batteries

Excluded Green Waste – Human or animal waste, soil, sand, clay, rocks, turf, tree trunks

 

Other Helpful Skip Bin Tips

• If any of the ‘can’t’ items are placed in the skip bin, the load will be contaminated, and you will be responsible for the costs involved in separating the hazardous materials from the rest of the rubbish.
• Place heavier items on top to prevent smaller and lighter items from being blown away.
• Avoid overfilling your skip bin. An extra charge may be applicable.
• Skip bins should be covered when unattended to prevent materials within from being dislodged or blown out of the bin.
